Final Cut Express Illustrated Keying Discussion: Page 7
For those of you who don't have our keyer, and in the interest of comparison, these are the filters you need to add, and the adjustments you need to deal with, if you wish to make your key with the built-in Final Cut Express filters. You will need the Color Smoothing for DV (VKey also does this if you check the 4:1:1 box). You'll then need the chroma-keyer, and you'll have to adjust a few settings. By the way, these filters must appear in the order I have them listed here. The next filter you'll need is a spill suppressor, to get rid of the unwanted green on your subject. Finally, you'll need to do some matte choking, if you're keying DV. For higher definition material, this may be optional.
Even with all of these filters, and carefully tweaking of the controls, the final key isn't that good. To be fair, this material is hard to key, because of the high contrast lighting. That is one of the reasons I picked this shot!
