Quicktime Keying Tutorial

This tutorial will walk you through the steps for compositing a video that was shot on a green background, onto another video, that will replace the green background in the first shot. The keyer we will use (VKey by Oak Street Software, Inc. does 4:1:1 correction, makes the green transparent, and does green suppression, all in a single filter. This will make our job much easier, as the result will be nearly ideal with minimal effort.

For this tutorial, you will need a video clip that was shot on a green background, a video clip that will be used to replace the green background, and Quicktime Pro. The functions we will use are not available, unless you purchase an upgrade to Quicktime Pro from Apple.

You can use one or two of your clips from iMovie as sources for this tutorial, and you can take the final result back into iMovie, for some great Hollywood effects!

Please select a short clip for your foreground clip! About 10 seconds is plenty for you to get your feet wet without taking an eternity for it to render.
