Quicktime Keying Tutorial

We got here by selecting the Filter... button from the "Movie Settings" dialog. Here, you'll want to open the "Filters" list by clicking on the little triangle, unless it's already open. Under "Filters", you should see "Edge Detec[tion]", "Emboss", etc. If you do not see "VKey Filter", then you probably haven't installed the Vector Keyer we are using for this tutorial. You should have gotten installation instructions with the package, please review those for detailed instructions on installing the components. If you did install the component, and you don't see it in the list, it is likely that you either did not put the component in the correct folder, or you haven't restarted Quicktime player, since you installed it.

Hopefully, you have the VKey component, at this point. If you do not, you cannot proceed with this tutorial. If you have another chroma-keyer, you may select that, and proceed, but I can't help with the settings, or speak to the functions of a different keyer. If you have the VKey Filter, and you select it, you should see settings like those shown here. You may not have to adjust any settings. I suggest that you take the defaults, unless your green screen is really bad. The default cutoff angle should be 25 degrees, and green suppression defaults to 105. Matte blur is checked, Generate Mask should be unchecked, and 4:1:1 correction should be checked if you are using consumer DV video for your foreground clip.

Click Ok when you're finished.
